What is Hydrosol (Floral Waters) & What are Its Benefits?

Floral waters are a by-product of the steam distillation of essential oils. They are also known as Hydrosols. Floral waters can be added to the skincare routine for giving a refreshing and revitalizing feel to the skin.

They contain beneficial properties of the plant from which they are extracted. Different kinds of organic floral waters are used in making skincare, body care, and hair care products such as cleansers, toners, moisturizers, soaps, and shampoos for their soothing and aromatic properties. Natural floral waters are also used in aromatherapy and perfumery.

They can be used in many ways in our daily life. For example, Floral water can be added to the final rinse cycle of your laundry.

Use it as a linen mist when ironing, or simply sprinkle it onto your sheets before bedtime for a good night's sleep. Floral water can also be used as a final rinse after shampooing to condition and add fragrance to the hair.

They hydrate and balance the pH levels of the skin, and treat redness, acne, and sunburns. Floral water can be simply applied (using a spritz bottle or cotton ball) directly to your face immediately after cleansing.

Types of Floral Water

Lavender floral water is a byproduct of the distillation of lavender oil. It has a rich floral scent same as lavender oil. Lavender floral water is known to balance your thoughts and create a sense of harmony between body and mind. It is both cleansing and soothing making it an ideal nighttime skin toner. It also is great for acne or blemish-prone skin due to its anti-bacterial and soothing properties.

Rose floral water is an exotic aphrodisiac floral water and has a beautiful scent. It is considered luxurious due to the thousands of rose petals needed for the oil, from which it is distilled. It is rich in antioxidant and cleansing properties. Rose water is gentle on the skin and therefore recommended for sensitive skin. to other ingredients so is a great skin calmer and helps soothe reddened and inflamed skin. It maintains pH balance, stimulates the regeneration processes, and has a calming effect on acne and sunburns.

  • CHAMOMILE FLORAL WATER

Chamomile floral water, extracted from chamomile oil has relaxing and soothing properties, making it a perfect addition to your nighttime skincare regime. Chamomile floral water is mild and safe for use on babies skin and can even be used for cleansing and soothing their sore bums. It makes an excellent choice for someone with sensitive skin too.

  • WITCH HAZEL WATER

Witch hazel toner is produced from the distillation of the leaves and bark of the Witch Hazel shrub. Witch Hazel floral water is widely used in aromatherapy and conventional medicine. It is good for skin toning and cleansing and it can also protect the skin with antioxidant properties which makes it very useful in fighting acne.

How to Use Hydrosols for Skin?

They are great for hydrating dry skin and cooling sensitized skin, good for soothing and comforting the skin to heal it. They are mild and can be used on a baby’s skin as well.

They are great in the summertime as an instant skin-cooling water, with added benefits. They can be used as gentle cleansers for both adults and children. They can be used before moisturizers to lock in extra moisture.

Hydrosols are a part of the plants, carrying flower petals, roots, and twigs, and the fact that whatever the properties are there of the plant will come into the essential oils and hydrosols.

How to choose which floral water is best for your skin?

It is a natural product and it can be used in many versatile ways there are specifically no pros and cons. They are safe even when it goes into your eyes. One can spray floral water anytime and as many times as one wants to.

It’s good to carry it in your workout bag and spray it on your face once you’ve just finished your workout or in between. When used on your face, it acts like face sanitizer and can close the open pores and help it to stay fresh all along.

What can you do with floral water?

Floral water is a chemical-free product that gives results slowly and helps in maintaining your skin's hydration. Some people generally think that it is a waste of money but when you add them to your regime one can a change.

People think that they have a hydrosol so they won’t use another hydrosol on their skin. All Hydrosols are from different plants with different properties. So one should not limit oneself to one. For example, day and night Hydrosol can be different.

Since they are chemical-free and don’t harm your skin in any way. During summers it is advisable to keep them in the fridge to have a cooling effect. Floral waters usually can last beyond the printed shelf life and mature with time.
