Skincare Rituals for Men

By Rahul Gupta March 30, 2020

Although men are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of skincare, yet most men still have a long way to go for incorporating nurturing skincare to the regimen. Here are some pointers that will be helpful in selecting the right regime for men.

Take each Day as a Gift to take care of your skin. It’s really important to be aware and mindful not to use any harmful chemical-based products. One should start the day in the morning with cleansing, prepping for a shave, shaving, toning and moisturizing. Taking care of skin is a combination of Nurturance and Defence.

Apply a high SPF – 50 sunscreen is very important. Men skin age the same way as women. Every day our skin is under attack from damaging radicals that break down skin elastin and natural supply of collagen. For nourishment, one has to feed the skin with masques and moisturizers. It is important to know that your mask is made with hydrating ingredients and nourishes your skin.

Try the following ingredients and look out for them according to your skin type. Dry and Chapped skin – Shea butter, almond oil, Chamomile, Sandalwood and Palmarosa Oily and Acne-prone skin – Tea tree, Basil, Lemon, Monoi oil, Mango butter, Raspberry seed oil, Thyme,

Charcoal Sensitive skin – Natural glucan gum, lavender, Neroli, Geranium Aging skin- collagen, plant peptides, argan, palmarosa, sandalwood, patchouli, cypress, and myrrh. How we treat our skin depends on skin types. Most of us are probably aware of whether we have healthy, dry, oily, acne-prone, or combination skin. Dry skin is low on moisture. For those with dry skin should avoid harsh products, always use cream-based face cleansers and never go to bed without a nourishing night cream or facial oil.

Oily skin is smoother in texture as it carries more sebum. This sebum also keeps skin away from heavy wrinkling, but it also leads to blackheads and whiteheads. Cleanse two to three-time daily and scrub on alternate days. Use an oil-free moisturizer.

Applying an oil-free moisturizer is a must to normalize the sebum production. Always remember to use an excellent astringent or toner to close the open pores.

Combination skin has some dry areas, and some are oily. So try using products sparingly. Identify the areas that have more sebum production. Use the products sparingly there and use higher emollient ingredients. For those with healthy skin are blessed and rarely have eruptions in their face. It can only happen during stress, lack of sleep, or dietary alterations. For those with healthy skin, use a cream-based cleanser, scrub, tone, and moisturize. Men and Shaving go together.

Here are some tips one can follow to make daily shaving a nurturing experience.

1) Spend more than 5 minutes in shaving. Take time as haste often makes stinging cuts and a need to reapply the blade on skin.

2) Always shave in one direction. Choose one way and stick with it.

3) Use a good aftershave lotion every time after shaving. It helps to close open hair.

4) Use an exfoliant on the skin at night, and this is very helpful in avoiding ingrown har that can get stuck to skin.

Lastly, we all have the potential to enhance our beauty. It starts with self- realization and self – appreciation.

Paying close attention to our looks and going with the ingredients that are suited for skin is essential. POOJA NAGDEV Cosmetologist and Aromatherapist (Founder) INATUR
